A note on Election Day

There was a time in my life that I would have spent all of today attached to three screens (at a minimum) waiting with bated breath to see what the updates of the exit polls were saying, who had what prediction ready, and counting down the seconds until final results were in.  The day would be up and down, filled with anxiety, stress, and frustration.

And then I stopped.  I stopped reading the news every day, I stopped listening to every talking head under the sun to try to get a clear picture of reality without bias, I stopped letting myself be taken for a ride in the ever-changing winds of politics. I can confidently say I am much more at peace, and a more centered, more relaxed person because of it.

This is not to say that I’m an uninformed voter or that I’ve checked out completely.  In reality, removing myself from the day-to-day noise has allowed me to have the mental capacity and desire to do the research required to become an informed voter.  It allowed me to vote how I wanted to and not how a news anchor, politician, or celebrity told me to.

What goes on in your house is way more significant than what goes on in the White House.  At the end of the day, YOU control your own life and your destiny.  There will be obstacles, challenges, and roadblocks along your way, but you are ultimately in control.

On this election day, remember that no matter what the results are (though we will undoubtedly not know today), we will wake up tomorrow to see our family, friends, neighbors, coworkers, etc.  We will continue going to appointments, meetings, playdates, grocery shopping, and out to eat.  We will continue making goals and pursuing them, continue creating memories and building families, continue our hobbies and passions.  Educate yourself with the Truth, vote and honor the beauty of the voting process, and then continue to live your life.  It is up to us to remember that we are in control of our own destiny and not be sucked in when we’re told otherwise.

Also, step outside and take a big deep breath.  I can feel the tension in your shoulders through the screen.

Happy election day. I’ll see you tomorrow, friend. ❤️
